With his two-year contract extension, Matthew Nicks will remain Adelaide’s senior coach until at least the end of 2026.
Nicks will continue to lead the Crows as they attempt to make a run at the championship after rebuilding the roster and increasing the team’s winning record in each of his four seasons at West Lakes.
The contract extension, according to Crows CEO Tim Silvers, confirmed the Club’s view that Nicks was a long-term coach and the best choice to see the rebuild through to completion.
“It is important to recognize that we still have a lot of work ahead of us, but Nicksy’s leadership in guiding our Club through some difficult periods early in his term and our subsequent ascent up the ladder should not be undervalued,” Silvers stated.
“We have observed the on-field progress, and he has created a strategy that we are certain will withstand the demands of playoff football.
“He checks all the boxes for creating a positive, healthy environment for our players, coaches, and staff. Senior coaching is also a multifaceted role, and he has an engaging and genuine approach to communicating with all Club stakeholders.”
“We want to be a Club that consistently plays finals, even though there will always be challenges from week to week. History says successful clubs need stability and alignment.”
While agreeing to the extension, Nicks made it clear that the Club still had a lot of work ahead of it in order to advance into the top division of the League.
He remarked, “As a team, we’ve accomplished an amazing amount of work thus far, and I truly want to see this through and bring the success that all Crows fans deserve.”
“A large number of the coaches and high performance personnel on our team are gifted and seasoned professionals who have worked together for a number of years.
“Although we have come a long way, I believe we are only beginning. We are in a good position because we have the right people in the appropriate positions across the board.
“As a player, I am really pleased about our playing group; we have some very gifted players and everyone in the group has excellent character, which is important for what we are creating.
“This season will present its challenges, as it does every year, but we are resilient and we want to keep improving.”
