After what looks to be his final Super League game for Hull FC, Tex Hoy, a former fullback and five-eighth for the Newcastle Knights, may make his way back to Australia.
After leaving the Knights at the end of the 2022 NRL season, Hoy, 24, signed a two-year contract with Hull FC and has been a member of the team since the start of 2023.
But according to Hull Live, his teammates have been informed that he is free to leave the squad and will be released from his current contract early.
The decision was made in response to his lack of playing time the previous weekend, his failure to start the first eight games of the season, online confrontations with supporters, criticism of his coach on social media, and criticism from his father of the Hull FC head coach.
After going through the Knights youth system and competing in the Jersey Flegg Cup, Harold Matthews Cup, and Harold Matthews Cup, Hoy played 29 games for the team from 2020 to 2022 and scored 50 points (15 goals and five tries).
He was formerly on the NSW Blues U20 squad, and if his current club releases him, he may return to Australia. He might also choose to play in the Super League or RFL Championships while still abroad.
The Knights released a statement about Hoy’s departure in 2022 and stated, “With age on his side, the move is an opportunity for Hoy to further develop his game while experiencing life in another country.”
“Having came through the Knights Pathways system, he has a deep bond with the club’s members and the door is always open for him to return in the future.
“The Knights wish Tex all the very best for the future and look forward to making sure the remainder of 2022 is a fitting farewell for a valued member of the club.”
